How to Fix “macOS needs to repair your library”

macos_repair_library

Many users who have upgraded their current Mac OS started getting an error too frequently. Although it may be normal to receive the notification once in a while (problems may happen at any time), getting it too many times the same day can be quite annoying.

Is the new Mac Os version taking too much space?

The problem may be caused due to not enough storage availability. Apple confirmed that this update needs 14.3GB available in your hard drive storage for it to start the upgrade. Upon completion, High Sierra will consume an additional 1.5GB.

If you have updated recently, please make sure your device has enough storage first. If that is not the case, it would be best if you cleaned your laptop and got rid of all unnecessary files or programs that may be taking up space in your storage.

Additionally, we recommend trying to confirm that sierra does not take more space than it should, following the specs mentioned above. Sometimes, the problem may be solved after you start your Macbook. The device will erase the installation files to make sure the OS keeps functioning smoothly.

How to fix the error “Mac Os needs to repair your library” in a few steps

Many users have experienced this problem upon completion of the upgrade to macOS High Sierra. However, there are solutions you can use in order to keep utilizing your laptop as you should.

Is the Photos App causing the problem?

First, we recommend checking whether the pop-up message appears whenever you try to run specific applications. For instance, one of the most common apps to cause this error is the Photos App. Try to run it. If it opens or works for a while and then crashes without warning, there may be an actual error on your device’s library.

Following up, you should press the “option” and “command” keys while opening the app. You’ll see how a dialogue box shows up, showing you two options, one for repairing the app and the other for quitting the dialog. Click on “repair,” and the system will begin the reparation process automatically. Any issue will be solved quickly.

Are you not sure of what’s causing the issue?

Sometimes, the error may appear even if you’re not actively trying to run apps. This case can be worse as you are not able to use your laptop correctly. If the error keeps appearing randomly and frequently regardless of the programs you’re running, it will help if you tried the First Aid app.

Follow these steps thoroughly:

  1. Start by opening the Utility older of your laptop. Then, go to the Disk Utility tab.
  • Sometimes, you may be unable to open the utility folder. You need to shut down your laptop and restart it in recovery mode. You can do this by pressing Command + R while it is restarting.
  1. Once you’re on that tab, select the system drive. You’ll see multiple tabs, but you must select the “first aid” option.
  2. A process will start. It may last for a while, and after it’s done, you must restart your device again. Check if the issue is still happening.
  3. If the first aid feature did not help, you might need to take further steps.

What else can you do to fix this problem?

If the problem is still happening, you can use one of the following solutions:

Reinstalling macOS High Sierra – Restart your laptop in recovery mode by following the steps explained above. Open the Utility window. There, there should be an option for reinstalling macOS. Choose the correct hard drive, and then wait for the reinstallation to be completed.

Downgrade your macOS version – You can do this if you use the “Time Machine Backup” feature. However, you will lose any new data obtained prior to the upgrade, so we advise you to backup any file you want to preserve.

  1. Please connect your time machine disk, and hold down the Command + R keys until the brand’s logo appears on your screen.
  2. An option for backing-up from the Time Machine feature will appear. Choose it, and click on continue twice to confirm. Choose the source – the disk you connected previously. You’ll see a list with all the backups; select the latest one before the upgrade to High Sierra.
  3. More instructions will appear on the screen. Keep following them, and wait for a while until the process is completed.
